Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s Genuine Vegetable Parchment turns typical plastic packaging into purposeful and sustainable solutions
GVP’s unique attributes lend itself to be an exceptional replacement for typical plastic or film applications that require wet strength.
“Our GVP has unmatched resistance in wet conditions and creates a clean surface, meaning no loose fibers or dust will form on the end use product,” explained Raphael Bardet, Head of Business for Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s Parchment business line. “GVP is made with 100% cellulose, no chemical additives, and is biodegradable and compostable making it a truly sustainable solution.”
Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s Genuine Vegetable Parchment is biodegradable and certified home compostable with OK COMPOST HOME from TÜV, in addition to carrying certification in accordance with US FDA regulation 21 CFR176.170 and EU regulation 1935-2004.
“As you can see in the demonstration video, the strength of these parchment papers is proven,” Bardet further explained. “Additional end-use applications could include other cereals, pastas, polenta, quinoa – the possibilities are endless.”
Brand owners and consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the necessity of environmentally friendly products and packaging. In this particular end-use application, the main functions of the boil in bag is unchanged, and the consumer-experience remains intact while using a significantly more sustainable alternative. A recent study completed by Credence Research indicated that due to consumers’ availability for meal preparation time, market demand will increase for boil-in bags from 2018 to 2026, yet the report also indicated, “increasing awareness regarding the usage of eco-friendly products is restraining the growth of this market.”
